Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade
Students do not receive numerical grades in kindergarten, first and second grade. Students will receive meaningful feedback from their teachers to guide their learning. The RRISD Primary Report Card is a standards-based continuum, meaning that progress is reported on the knowledge and skills your child is expected to master at each grade level. The continuum is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and ranges from Performance Level 1 to Performance Level 4.
Level 1 - Exhibits skill/concept with direct guidance
Level 2 – Exhibits skill/concept with minimal guidance
Level 3 – Exhibits mastery of skill/concept
Level 4 – Exhibits understanding beyond grade level expectation.
Teachers assess a student’s performance level through observation, work samples, dialogue, performance tasks, and other informal and formal measures. Students are retaught at the time of need and given multiple opportunities to show mastery of a concept or skill.

Teachers in art, music and physical education report student progress on the report card using the following terms:
E Excellent
S Satisfactory
N Needs improvement
U Unsatisfactory
Progress Reports/Conferences
A progress report will be sent home during the fourth week of each quarter if a student is not passing. A teacher shall request a conference with a student’s parents at the end of a nine-week period if the student’s grades are not passing. Parents and teachers may request a conference at any other time for other academic or behavioral concerns.
